Who run the world: Girls!
Being a girl in 2015 means defying social expectations, overcoming identity struggles and aspiring for more, more, more. We look at what being an inspiring woman means for the Tribes – from those breaking boundaries and countering stereotypes like Leverne Cox; to being a relatable, influential icon (stand up Lena Dunham). Boy Racing isn’t just for the boys and Real Gamer girls are fighting for their right to belong in their Tribe – that’s why this month we’re honoring and celebrating the real girls’ world.
Points covered:
- We explore the idea of the ‘3rd space’ as an alternative way for girls to socialise and create their identity away from the outside world, given the lack of freedom they continue to have in comparison to boys
- We’ll look at the iconic and inspirational female role models having an impact on Tribes and driving a ‘feminist awakening’ that paves the way for all young people moving forward
- We’ll talk about an increasing female presence in traditionally male sectors such a sports and gaming, which is having an impact on how young people see themselves and engage in popular culture
- We’ll also look at the qualities which are becoming increasingly celebrated by Tribes, which look to better the self and stand up.
Case in points:
- We’ll draw on the idea of Bedroom culture as another way for girls to organise their lives, socialise and create their identity, showcasing this through Tribes’ own bedroom pictures
- We’ll look at why relatability, exceeding expectations and transparency that shows strong and emotional characters is the key to the admiration of celebrity role models
- We’ll case-study some of the areas where women are breaking boundaries and stereotypes, referencing cultural events and movements like the Olympics and Gamergate
- We’ll showcase Tribes’ own manifestos which are largely driven by passion and positivity
