Wake Up to Make Up

Apart from a bit of face paint when I was a kid and a brief My Chemical Romance phase as a teenager I haven’t worn make-up very often in my life. However, make-up is a hot topic amongst our female Tribe members so we decided to investigate this further and explored what make up they love what inspires them to get a new look and what brands can do to get inside their make-up bag.

We found out The Tribes love make-up, it boosts their confidence and many stated they wouldn’t leave the house without it; applying make-up is all part of their daily routine.  Interestingly though, despite loving make up, they were using it to create a natural look, toning down the amount they use since they were in their younger teens. Eye Make -up is a necessity, their number one product, this is especially pertinent amongst the Alternative and Urban Tribes who love eyeliner!

I love how eye make-up is being done in the media, so me and my eyeliner and mascara are best friends at the moment

YouTube is a big hit for make up inspiration, many of the tribes subscribe to their favourite make-up artists or bloggers who tell them about cool new looks, and give tutorials; they use YouTube for inspiration and for learning how to get the latest look.  Social media is also mentioned as an inspiration, geared towards Pinterest and Instagram where the tribes pin looks they like or follow certain people to get the latest look straight to their smartphone. Celebrities are also cited as a source of inspiration for the Tribes as well, however often they are seen to be looks that are hard to achieve and they need encouragement from friends to try more outlandish styles.

I normally find out new make up tutorials from YouTube channels such as Anya Burr

The Tribes are fickle with make-up brands and it seems not one brand has all they need in their range, their make-up bags are a real mix of different brands and often they listed more than 7 brands as their favourite. The brands they love create products that are affordable to them, but still give them the look the brands out of their price range produce. The Tribes experiment a lot with cheaper brands to try and find one which works as well as the more expensive brands. The Tribes are still young and many suffer from sensitive skin and acne outbreaks, therefor those brands which care for their skin and are not harsh tend to be favoured.

I like Miss Sporty cause its kind of ‘natural’ looking, and doesn’t annoy my skin cause its quite light
